Music is taught by Mrs H Petersen (the Head of Music) and Mr N Hughes (who is in charge of Music Technology), both are experienced and enthusiastic Music teachers.

At KS4 there are three Music groups in both year ten and in year eleven, with approximately 55 students taking the GCSE exam each year. There are two quite different GCSE Music courses on offer in order to help students develop and achieve in the direction most suited to their needs. Please read the GCSE Music section to find out more.

At KS5 there is a Music group and also a Music Technology group in both year twelve and in year thirteen; with approximately 20 students on each course taking the AS and A2 exams each year.

Every year we have a high percentage of students that continue their Music & Music Technology studies at University and at Music Schools.

The department stages a great number of shows every year involving GCSE and A level students and provides opportunities for all students across the school to get involved in Music.

The department organises a number of trips each year in order to broaden the students’ understanding and appreciation of Music & Music Technology and normally includes a foreign tour. These trips are open to Music students involved in the various music groups linked with these trips and tours.
